As I look back over the year it’s scattered with highlights (no pun intended!) It started with a bang with the launch of Jack Howard at Paul Edmonds, and what a brilliant collaboration it’s been. Working alongside such a caring talented man with a brilliant team where everyone has made me feel so welcome has just been fantastic.
We’ve spent the year talking colour . I’ve loved sharing some of my celebrity makeovers and it’s also been great seeing my work in film, on TV and in campaigns. Some of my favourites would have to be Gillian Anderson in Hannibal, Vanessa Kirby in Everest (she’s such a hot talent to watch, she’s going to be huge), and they also starred together in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Old Vic and are taking it to NYC.
Gorgeous Elen Rhys is filming The Bastard Executioner; Brazilian model Ana Beatriz Barros has done Victoria’s Secret, the cover of Vogue and is jet setting around on shoots and red carpets. Clara Paget was in the Burberry campaign and I took her blonde, while Poppy Delevingne has gone from soft balayage to bombshell blonde, my big colour tip for the winter which I’m also loving on Jennifer Lawrence.
February saw me launch my social media class Brand Me at Pro Hair Live Manchester and April brought Paul Edmonds and the team live with me at the first Pro Hair London (I do hope you’re coming next year, we’re already planning…) (add collection pics)
It’s also been a year where we’ve touched on ideas about colour menus and the language we use
How often do we hear the following…
1 “I don’t want a solid colour”
2. “I want my colour to shine/ sparkle or feel fresh”
3. “I want my colour to suit me“
We are really only dealing with four colours with endless choices, blonde, brown, red and black. That’s it guys, but boy can we make it really personal if we choose.
Fact: colour placement is dictated by the haircut. So really we should be talking more about placement than half or full heads and using fresh language to excite and stimulate the client’s imagination. This is why
balayage, Bronde, New York Lights, Baby Lights ,Ombre and most recently, Fraiche has been so successful for me because it’s more modern and relevant . When New York Lights was featured in Stylist the phone didn’t stop ringing.
Change words, reinvent your menu, be daring, Try changing:
Toner to glaze or gloss
Bleach to Pre lightener
Highlights to baby lights
Add classic balayage and creative balayage to the menu, we have so many possibilities and opportunities to get those million women back into the salon what’s stopping us?
This year also saw the launch of my collaboration with Beauty Works for the Balayage by Jack Howard range, which has been immensely popular – the first run of extensions sold out and we’ve now added to the range with more developments in the pipeline…
I became a brand ambassador for Viviscal Professional because I’ve been so impressed by the results they get and healthy hair is the basis for any healthy colour, so a must for the client in my eyes. And I’ve been enjoying partnering with L’Oreal Professionnel as a 20:20 Colour artist with regular inspiration and brainstorming sessions. I’m also back as a gueat artist for L’oreal, sharing the love, so its going to be a busy year
